How to fill in this sheet
The header deserves two minutes before anyone touches a barbell. Team A and Team B, on the first line, take the two boxes facing each other or the two teams; leave them empty for an individual heat. Then Date, Venue, Referee — that is the judge — and Scorekeeper. Competition and Match no. identify the heat, and Category holds Individual, Team or the age group. The unlabelled box at the end of the last header line is where the format belongs: For Time, AMRAP or EMOM, with the time cap beside it.
The grid does not set a Team A against a Team B here: CrossFit gets the generic sheet, ten numbered lines with Event, Participant and Result. One line per athlete per workout. Event takes the name of the WOD, Participant the athlete, Result the score in the unit of that format — a time in minutes and seconds for a For Time, rounds plus reps for an AMRAP, written 7+12. Add Rx or scaled next to the name: the same figure does not tell the same story across the two versions.
This grid has no Final score line, and that is deliberate: a workout does not add up into a match score. Ranking is a second pass — one rank per event, converted into points on a scale, cumulated across the workouts, with a tie broken in favour of the best result on a single event. If a penalty applied, write it beside the result rather than folding it in silently. Sign at the bottom: the athlete in a Captain box, the judge in the Referee cell. A score nobody validated is a score nobody keeps for very long.
What the scorekeeper watches
The judge's real work is the movement standard, rep after rep: the full required range of motion or nothing. A rep that falls short is a no-rep, it is called out loud and it does not count — so the number on your sheet is the number of validated reps, never the number attempted. Time penalties exist too, added for a non-conforming movement or a departure from the prescribed order, and a video review can adjust a score afterwards. Serious breaches of the format go as far as disqualification.
Then the clock, which in a For Time is the score itself: it starts on three-two-one-go and stops when the last prescribed rep is validated, not when the athlete drops the bar. At the time cap you stop everything and write the cap down, with the reps completed beside it — an athlete capped at 12:00 with 84 reps is not the one capped with 51. In an AMRAP the time is fixed and the count moves instead: call the last minute out loud.
Common questions
What do I put in Result for an AMRAP?
Rounds plus reps, in that order: 7+12 means seven full rounds and twelve reps into the eighth. Never a time — the time was fixed before the start. Add the version next to it, Rx or scaled, because the same 7+12 does not represent the same effort at two different loads.
Three WODs on one sheet — how do I rank them?
In blocks: lines one to four for the first WOD, the next block for the second, with the event name repeated in the Event column. The sheet records results, not standings — turn each event into a rank, convert ranks into points and add those up separately. A tie goes to the best result on a single event.
Is this the official scorecard of a CrossFit competition?
No. At a sanctioned event the judge's card belongs to the organiser and follows the standards published for each workout. This one is a generic sheet for a box, an in-house throwdown or a team session: it carries the format, the athlete, the validated result and the two signatures, which is what an affiliate evening actually needs.
Paper cannot start a clock. A phone can: the timer runs, each athlete's finish is marked, and the shortest time comes out without anyone doing arithmetic on a whiteboard. Scan the QR printed beside this sheet and the heat opens for the coach at the far end of the room, or for family — free to watch, no app, no account. It runs with no signal too, which most boxes will recognise.
