Table tennis, or ping-pong, is a racket sport played by two players (singles) or two pairs (doubles) on opposite sides of a table divided by a net. Players hit a lightweight ball back and forth with small rubber-covered paddles, trying to make it bounce in the opponent's half. It is an Olympic sport known for its speed and spin.

Score more points than your opponent by preventing them from legally returning the ball into your half. You win the point whenever your opponent fails to make a good return.

• •On the serve, the ball is tossed up by hand, vertically at least 16 cm, then struck so it bounces first on your own side, then on the opponent's side.
• •During a rally, the ball may bounce only once on your side before you must return it over the net.
• •You lose the point if the ball goes out, goes into the net on a return (a ball that clips the net and still lands on the opponent's side stays in play; on the serve it is a let), bounces twice on your side, or is not returned.
• •Service changes every 2 points; at 10-10 (deuce) it changes after every point.
• •A game is played to 11 points, won by a 2-point margin.
• •In table tennis you can score regardless of who served (every rally awards a point).

Every rally awards one point to the winner, no matter who served. The first to reach 11 points wins the game, provided they lead by 2 points. At 10-10, play continues until one player leads by 2 points.

A game is played to 11 points with a 2-point margin. A match is played as best of an odd number of games (usually best of 5 or best of 7 depending on the competition). Service alternates every 2 points, and after every point once the score reaches 10-10.

You win a game by reaching 11 points with at least a 2-point lead. You win the match by taking the majority of the scheduled games (e.g. 3 games out of 5, or 4 out of 7).
