How Volleyball scoring works
A point is scored on every rally: the team that wins the rally earns the point and the right to serve. A set is generally won by the first team to reach 25 points with at least a 2-point lead. At 24-24 play continues until one team leads by 2 points.
Match format
A match is played as best of 5 sets. The first four sets go to 25 points (win by 2) and the deciding fifth set (tie-break) is played to 15 points (win by 2). Depending on the format or competition, some matches may be played as best of 3 sets.
How to win
The team that wins the majority of sets wins the match (for example 3 sets in a best-of-5 match). Each set must be won by a margin of at least 2 points.
Recommended Score Zen setup
Set up volleyball with set-based scoring: use an Official preset (sets to 25 points, win by 2, with a tie-break to 15) or a Casual preset (adjustable target and number of sets). Choose the number of sets to win based on your format (best of 3 or best of 5).
