Özet

Rugby union (rugby à XV) is a collective contact sport played between two teams of fifteen players. The oval ball is passed by hand backwards or kicked forwards, and the aim is to score by grounding it in the opponents' in-goal or kicking it between the posts. Play alternates between running and tackling phases and set phases such as the scrum, lineout, ruck and maul.

Amaç

Score more points than the opponent by crossing their goal line to ground the ball (a try) or by kicking it between the posts. The team with the most points at the end of regulation time wins.

Temel kurallar

  • The ball may be passed by hand only backwards or sideways; a forward pass is not allowed.
  • You advance the ball by running with it or by kicking it forward.
  • Tackling is only permitted with the arms and below the shoulders, on the ball carrier.
  • After a tackle the carrier must release the ball, and players must respect the offside line on the ground (ruck).
  • A try is scored by grounding the ball yourself in the opponents' in-goal with downward pressure.
  • Offside penalises a player who is in front of the ball and active in play; the details depend on the phase.
