- How many matches for 12 teams?
- 11 matches. Every match knocks one team out, and one team is left standing — so it is always one fewer match than there are teams.
- Why do some teams start in the second round?
- Because 12 is not a power of two. The bracket holds 16 places, so the 4 highest seeds get a bye and skip the first round. That is the standard way to fill an uneven bracket.
- How is the seeding decided?
- Seed 1 faces the lowest seed, seed 2 the next lowest, and so on at every round. It is the standard seeding used in real competitions — and it is what stops the two favourites meeting early.
